Our Speakers:

Tanja Fuchsberger: Winner of the Society for Neuroscience Brain Awareness Video Competition

Postdoctoral Research Associate at University of Cambridge, Department of Physiology, Development and Neuroscience. Neuronal Oscillations Group

Main research interests: Synaptic plasticity and memory. Techniques: Whole-cell patch clamp, in vivo LFP recordings, 2-Photon Imaging. 

Public Engagement Strategies: Science communication through video; Video editor at Bluesci (Cambridge Science Magazine); 3D Animation with Blender. 


Matteo Farienella

Matteo is an expert in science communication and visual storytelling. He received a PhD in neuroscience from University College London in 2013 and as a Presidential Scholar in Society and Neuroscience at Columbia University (2016-2019) he studied the role of visual narratives in science communication. He is the author of Neurocomic (Nobrow 2013) a graphic novel supported by the Wellcome Trust, now published in more than 9 languages, and several other science comics. He has worked with scientific publications and institutions all over the world to make science more accessible. His work has been awarded the National Science Foundation Visualization Challenge (2015), and it has been featured at the Society of Illustrators (2015) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (2017). He currently works as Science Multimedia Producer for Columbia's Zuckerman Institute.


Amisha Gadani

Amisha is an LA-based artist, educator and science illustrator currently working as Senior Artist at the Institute for Society and Genetics at UCLA and Faculty at ArtCenter School of Design in Pasadena. She previously spent over four years working at the art and science focused Exploratorium Museum in San Francisco in education, exhibits and illustration; and two years working at UCLA in two biology labs as an illustrator producing over fifty scientific illustrations featured in journals and research papers and as an outreach educator using drawing and sculpture focused workshops to explain scientific concepts to local elementary school students. www.amishagadani.com


Sophia Gad-Nasr

Sophia is a PhD candidate in cosmology and astroparticle physics at the University of California - Irvine. Her work focuses on figuring out how the Universe came to be what it is today, primarily via studying dark matter and galaxy evolution. Sophia is also an avid science communicator who loves to share mind-blowing facts about the mysteries of the Universe with the world. She has done science advising for the TV show 12 Monkeys as well as an art collaboration with artist Cathrin Machin.
