Call for AAAS CASE Workshop Applications | March 18 – 21, Washington DC | Applications due February 2

Interested in learning first-hand about the federal government, and how scientists can play a role in policymaking?

The Science Policy Group at UCLA is soliciting applications for the AAAS CASE Workshop in Washington, D.C. from March 18 – 21. This 3-day entry-level workshop includes the opportunity to learn about the structure and organization of Congress, the federal budget and appropriations processes, and tools for effective science communication and civic engagement.  You will also get the opportunity participate in interactive seminars about policy-making and communication as well as meet with your elected Members of Congress and congressional staff. We have generously received funding from the Graduate Programs in Bioscience (GPB) and the Brain Research Institute (BRI) to sponsor one attendee each. Sponsorship for attending this workshop will include the registration fee, flight, and lodging.

All GPB students are eligible to apply for the GPB sponsored position. All graduate students in any program in the lab of a BRI member are eligible to apply for the BRI sponsored position. Please indicate this appropriately on the application.

Applications will close at 5 PM on February 2nd. Please find the application here. Selection will be based primarily on interest in science policy, and experience in science communication and leadership roles.

Those selected as scholarship recipients to attend the CASE Workshop must be willing to disseminate information learned at the workshop back to the UCLA community, through a presentation, workshop, or other format.
