In conjunction with the UCLA Science Project, we’re starting to host virtual “field trips” for high school students in the greater LA area, especially in underserved communities. These short trips will feature UCLA students giving a tour of their lab and a brief overview of their research.

Evidence-Based Solutions to the Mass Incarceration Crisis: Neuroscience and Cash Bail
Much of our work as neuroscientists revolves around the criminal justice system, including mental illness, adolescent development, addiction, and educational attainment. In our efforts to progress society by pushing the boundaries of human knowledge, we urge the neuroscience community to consider incorporating efforts to ensure that existing science is harnessed to affect solutions.
Rose Hendricks, PhD: "Communicating Science for Impact"
Rose Hendricks received her PhD in Cognitive Science from UC San Diego and has substantial experience in neuroscience-related science communication. She now focuses on public outreach for scientists.
Elizabeth Barnert, MD, MPH, MS: "Translating Science on Juvenile Justice to Policy Change"
Dr. Barnert serves as an advisor to the California state legislature and to US Congress on juvenile justice policy. Her research contributed to the passage of California SB 1322, which decriminalized child victims of commercial sexual exploitation; to AB 2992, which requires police officer training on commercial sexual exploitation of children; and to SB 439, which excludes children 11 and under from the juvenile justice system.
